Privacy Policy
Last updated: 28 September 2026
BuildMetricLab is operated by Brightscale Labs Limited, a company registered in England & Wales (United Kingdom). This one policy covers every visitor, wherever you are. We process personal data in accordance with the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR) and the Data Protection Act 2018, and we also meet the requirements that apply to visitors in other places, including the EU GDPR for visitors in the European Economic Area, the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) as amended by the California Privacy Rights Act (CPRA) and other US state privacy laws, the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs), and Canada's Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) with applicable provincial laws (such as PIPA in Alberta and British Columbia, and Quebec's Law 25). The sections on your rights near the end say what each of these gives you.
What we collect
- Calculator inputs: the numbers you type into calculators are processed locally in your browser. They are not transmitted to our servers or stored on our end.
- Anonymous usage analytics (no cookies): when a calculator is used we record an anonymous event containing the tool, the name of the figure it produced, approximate country/region and device type (from network headers). The values you type and the results calculated from them are not transmitted. It contains no cookies, no IP addresses, and no information that can identify you personally.
- Analytics — Microsoft Clarity: aggregated heatmaps and anonymised session replays on the calculator pages, to help us improve the tools. Input fields are masked, so the values you type are not captured.
- Analytics — Google Analytics 4: page views, referral source, approximate location (country/region, derived from a truncated IP address) and device type on the calculator pages, so we can see which calculators are used. Calculator inputs are never sent to Google. We do not enable Google Signals, advertising features or remarketing, so your visit is not used to target ads.
- Sending materials to PlainEstimate: nothing. See "Price it on PlainEstimate" below.
- Voluntary feedback: if you submit feedback or a contact message through the site, we store the message plus any contact email you choose to provide, to reply to you. You can request deletion at any time.
When the analytics tools run
Whether Clarity and Google Analytics load depends on where you are, and the consent message (InMobi Choice) applies the right rule for your location:
- In the UK, the European Economic Area and anywhere else the consent message asks first, neither tool loads, and none of their cookies are set, until you consent.
- Elsewhere (including the United States, Canada and Australia), they load unless you turn them off. You can turn them off at any time with the Cookie preferences link in the footer. We also treat a Global Privacy Control (GPC) signal from your browser as an opt-out, and they do not load when your browser sends it.
Price it on PlainEstimate
Calculators that produce a list of materials offer a Price it on PlainEstimate button. It opens PlainEstimate, our estimate and invoice app, in a new tab with those materials as a new estimate: each material's name, quantity and unit, and the calculator's name. No prices are sent, and nothing you type beyond the result is included.
The materials travel in the part of the link after the #, which your browser does not send to any server, so neither BuildMetricLab nor PlainEstimate receives them over the network; PlainEstimate reads them in your browser and keeps the estimate there. We receive nothing when you use the button. PlainEstimate is also run by Brightscale Labs Limited and has its own privacy policy, which covers what happens once you are there.
The Estimator that used to live at buildmetriclab.com/estimator has been retired in favour of PlainEstimate, and its address now forwards there. Estimates saved in the old Estimator were held only in your own browser; we never had a copy.
What we do not do
- We do not set advertising cookies.
- We do not sell personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioural advertising. We have not done so in the preceding 12 months and have no plans to start.
- We do not share your calculator inputs with anyone.
- We do not use your data to train AI models.
- We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under
- If you believe we have, contact us and we will delete it.
Who processes your data
- Microsoft (Clarity) — heatmaps and session replay. See Microsoft's Privacy Statement.
- Google (Analytics 4) — audience and page-performance measurement. See Google's Privacy Policy.
- InMobi (Choice) — the certified consent management platform that shows the consent message and records your privacy choices. See InMobi's Privacy Policy.
- Cloudflare — hosting, content delivery, the spam check on our forms, the worker that records the anonymous, cookieless usage events described above, and the worker that forwards the old Estimator address to PlainEstimate, which keeps no data.
International transfers
Brightscale Labs Limited operates from the United Kingdom, and our providers may store or process data in other countries, including outside the UK, the EEA, Australia and Canada. Where UK or EU data protection law applies, those transfers rely on recognised safeguards such as the UK International Data Transfer Addendum and the EU Standard Contractual Clauses (Google, for example, uses Standard Contractual Clauses). For visitors in Australia this is an overseas disclosure under APP 8, and we use only reputable providers with their own privacy commitments.
Legal basis (UK and EEA)
The anonymous, cookieless usage analytics rely on our legitimate interest in understanding site usage to improve the tools. Microsoft Clarity and Google Analytics 4 rely on your consent (given through the InMobi Choice consent message). Feedback correspondence relies on your consent (pressing Send), and the spam check those forms run rests on our legitimate interest in not being flooded with automated submissions.
Retention
We keep feedback and contact messages only as long as needed to respond and to maintain a basic service-quality record (typically 24 months), then delete them. The anonymous usage events are kept in aggregate form only.
Your rights
Wherever you are, you can ask us for access to, correction of, or deletion of personal information we hold about you, and withdraw consent you have given. Email contact@brightscalelabs.com from the address you would like us to verify against. The sections below set out the specific rights and complaint routes for your region.
UK and European Economic Area
Under the UK GDPR (and the EU GDPR for visitors in the EEA) you may request access to, correction of, or erasure of your personal data, restrict or object to its processing, ask for it in a portable format, and withdraw consent at any time. If you are unhappy with how we handle your data you may complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk), or, in the EEA, to your local data protection authority.
United States
If you are a California resident, you have the right to:
- Know what categories of personal information we collect about you and how we use it.
- Access the specific pieces of personal information we hold about you.
- Delete personal information we hold about you, subject to limited statutory exceptions.
- Correct inaccurate personal information.
- Limit the use of any "sensitive personal information" we hold (we collect none).
- Opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information for cross-context behavioural advertising. We do not sell or share personal information, so there is nothing to opt out of, and no "Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information" link is required.
- Non-discrimination. You will not receive different service for exercising any of these rights.
You may designate an authorised agent to make a request on your behalf. Residents of other states with comprehensive privacy laws — including Virginia, Colorado, Connecticut, Utah, Texas, Oregon, Montana and others as those laws take effect — generally have similar rights of access, correction, deletion, portability and opt-out, and can exercise them the same way. We respond to verifiable requests within 45 days, extendable by a further 45 days where reasonably necessary, with notice.
Australia
Under the Privacy Act 1988 and the Australian Privacy Principles you may request access to, or correction of, personal information we hold about you. If you are unhappy with how we handle your personal information you may complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) at oaic.gov.au.
Canada
Under PIPEDA and applicable provincial law you may request access to, or correction of, personal information we hold about you, and withdraw consent. If you are unhappy with how we handle your personal information you may complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada (OPC) at priv.gc.ca, or to your provincial privacy regulator (in Quebec, the Commission d'accès à l'information).
Changes
We may update this policy when our practices change. The "Last updated" date at the top reflects the current version.
