How the ufh coverage area calculator works

The heated area is the room area minus the footprint of fitted units, baths and other built-ins you would not pipe under. Dividing that by the room area gives the coverage percentage — how much of the floor actually carries pipe. That heated area, not the gross room area, is what drives the real pipe length and heat output.

Assumptions and limits

This subtracts a fixed-unit area you supply. It does not judge whether the remaining coverage delivers enough heat — that depends on the room’s heat loss and the floor construction, which a heat-loss calculation resolves.

Why exclude fitted units?

Piping under fixed kitchen units or a bath wastes heat and risks trapping a pipe you can never reach. Heat only the open floor.

What coverage is enough?

It depends on the room’s heat loss. Low coverage in a unit-packed room may not meet demand — check the heat loss before committing.

Does this size the heat output?

No — it gives the heated area. Output depends on floor construction, flow temperature and spacing, which a full design covers.

Should I heat under a kitchen island?

Generally no if it is fixed to the floor. Heat the walkway around it instead.
