How the surround speaker layout calculator works

The tool returns the standard speaker angles for the chosen format — front left and right at ±22–30° from centre, surrounds at 90–110° to the side, and for Atmos a pair of overhead speakers at around 45° elevation. It places the main listening position at roughly 60% of the room depth from the screen, a common sweet spot away from the back wall.

Reading the result

Set the front pair to form an equilateral-ish triangle with the seat, keep the surrounds slightly behind and above ear height, and avoid pushing the seat against the back wall. The angles matter more than the exact distances.

Assumptions and limits

These are standard-layout angles, not a room-corrected calibration. Furniture, doors and room shape force compromises, and the final balance comes from a receiver’s room-correction and your ears. Height speakers assume a ceiling that suits overhead mounting.
